Co-commissioned by Arts Brookfield and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council as part of the River to River Festival, HARBORED interweaves oral histories, archived material, historical fiction, poetry, music and dance, to survey two centuries of immigration tales and reveal how the American Dream both delivers and fails on its promises. Visionary director Jimmy Maize and “Downtown Innovator to Watch” Heather Christian team up on this site-specific tour de force that marks a bold return to En Garde Arts’ roots in civic spectacle.

“Rarely do you find a work of art speak[ing] so precisely to its time…”

-Pittsburgh Post Gazette

On the 20th anniversary of the genocide he witnessed firsthand, a copy of David’s book about his time in Rwanda arrives on his doorstep with a note: “You didn’t tell them everything.” Adapted from Sean Lewis’ critically acclaimed DOGS OF RWANDA, this immersive play makes us question how history is represented and reminds us of the redemptive powers of storytelling and community.

To produce bold, unconventional, and innovative multimedia and interdisciplinary theatre that marries content with community and inspires dialogue and debate about the salient issues of our time.
